Sun light is a natural resource, which can be converted into electricity.† Using sunlight instead of natural gas, oil, coal or wood for meeting our energy needs helps protect the environment and promotes the use of renewable energy resources.
Solar power technologies are those that use reflective materials to harness the sunís energy, or heat, to generate electricity. Solar panels are a good example of these technologies.
Several solar panels joined together in an array can generate enough electricity to power a homeís appliances or other electrical devices. To learn more about renewable energy click here.
El Paso Electric has a Solar PV Pilot Program which offers an incentive, or rebate, to customers who install solar energy systems at their homes or businesses. The financial incentive helps customers reduce the cost of installing a solar-energy system.
By installing solar on your home or business, you can generate a portion of your own electricity and help the environment. To qualify for the rebates customers must meet certain eligibility requirements, including working with an El Paso Electric-authorized service provider.

Installing a solar system doesn't make sense if your house wastes energy. Your best investment strategy is to target those low-cost energy efficiency aspects of your home like adequate insulation and sealing leaks before considering a solar energy system. Many local contractors can give your home an "energy audit" that will tell you what improvements you can make to your home and how much those changes will save you over time.
