The lessons are adapted to various grade levels such as Kinder through 2nd grade, 3rd grade through 5th grade, middle school and high school.
The Health Education and Promotion Division conducts the FOCUS El Paso Program in the Woman, Infants, and Children (WIC) clinics and community agencies in El Paso to prevent unplanned and repeat pregnancies, births, and sexually transmitted diseases in young women 24 years of age and younger. The FOCUS program consists of classes for young women that discuss contraception use, risky behavior such as alcohol use, self-esteem, and sexually transmitted disease prevention. The program is primarily for women 24 years of age and younger that are high-risk, who are pregnant, already have a child, and are lower income or homeless. Women who participate in the classes and complete the program will receive incentives for themselves and their children.
